Materials and Care

Why do you use linen and cotton?

We choose natural fibers for the way they breathe, soften, and age over time.

Linen and cotton carry a quiet texture that feels natural in the home, materials that become more familiar with use, rather than remaining untouched.

They also support a more responsible way of making, aligned with our small-batch approach.

Why are linen pieces priced higher?

Linen is a natural fiber that requires time, skill, and careful handling at every stage — from weaving to finishing.

We choose it for its durability, breathability, and the way it softens with use and ages beautifully over time. Paired with small-batch production and hand-block printing, it results in pieces that are both labor-intensive and made to be kept

What dyes do you use?

Our pieces are printed using Azo-free, low-impact dyes.

They are chosen to be safer for artisans, gentle on natural fabrics, and more responsible in their use, while still allowing color to feel rich and lasting over time.

What does “Azo-free dyes” mean?

Azo-free dyes are free from certain harmful compounds commonly restricted in textile production.

They are a safer, more considered choice, for the hands that create and the homes they become part of.

At The Peacock Palette, we use azo-free dyes as part of our commitment to thoughtful materials and small-batch craftsmanship.

Does linen feel rough or stiff?

Linen softens with use and with every wash.

It may feel structured at first, but over time it relaxes into a fabric that is breathable, comfortable, and becomes softer with age.

Will my piece look exactly like the product photos?

Each piece will be true to the design you see, but not identical.

Hand-block printing and natural fibers create subtle variations in color and pattern, a reflection of the making process, and part of what gives each piece its character.

Will the colors fade?

Our prints use natural and low-impact dyes designed to hold color beautifully over time.

A gentle softening may occur with use, a natural part of the fabric and printing process, and part of what gives each piece its character.

How do I care for linen and cotton pieces?

Linen is best washed gently in cold water and line dried where possible.

Cotton pieces can be spot cleaned or gently hand washed, depending on the product.

Detailed care instructions are provided on each product page.
